Wapakoneta and The Wapakoneta City Schools maintain several parks, sports facilities and playgrounds around the city.

 

Belcher Park is located behind the downtown area along the river. It is home to the Farmer's Market. Saturdays 9am in season.

Harmon Field, on the site of Wapakoneta Middle School, is best known as the home of the Wapakoneta High School Redskins. It also boasts 4 tennis courts, 3 baseball fields, a playground, picnic area and swimming pool.

Riverwalk is the name given to the paved path linking the downtown to the YMCA. It runs along the north bank of the Auglaize River, then north, near City Hall, to connect to the sidewalk at St Joseph School.

Veteren's Memorial Park, besides providing picnic shelters, a 1-mile walking track and physical challenges, baseball fields, a playground and skateboard surface is also the site of an annual memorial service honoring veterens and servicemen. 419-738-9356 (evenings)

 

 

Fort Amanda
Amanda is located about 10 miles north of Wapakoneta on State Route 198. It is a free admission park and an Ohio Historic Landmark open daily during daylight hours. Fort Amanda served as an important supply depot during the War of 1812. A monument stands at the site of what was a 12 foot high fort which included 5 blockhouses, cabins and storage building. Read the diary of Ohio Militiaman Ensign William Schillinger. It provides a daily account of life at Amanda including notations about the weather, events unfolding and personal thoughts.
